The Quantity Selector is a great example of a nuts-and-bolts Direct Commerce Platform feature that might not seem all that exciting at first, but is one of those small details that have a big impact on customer experience. Offered as an optional add-in for your Product Offer Container, the Quantity Selector can be implemented or suppressed intentionally based on what’s best for your inventory.
Now You See It, Now You Don’t
When implementing the Quantity Selector, it’s up to you to decide which product pages would benefit from the selector, and which products may be better off without it. Using data attributes, we allow the quantity selector to be shown or suppressed based on price range. However, whether or not you suppress this feature at all is up to you and makes sense for your own inventory.
Where the Quantity Selector Shines
For accessories and low-dollar items, this significantly reduced the time and effort of checkout for customers stocking up guitar screens, cables, etc. For products that customers are likely to stock up on, implementing the Quantity Selector means fewer clicks, less backtracking, and less friction overall.
When To Suppress the Quantity Selector
When it comes to big-ticket items, allowing customers to add multiples of high-dollar products can cause issues. Accidental purchases resulting in costly returns, fraud issues, limited inventory, or alternative preferred methods of bulk purchasing may all be factors to consider when setting your price ranges.
